Job Summary *ACUTE CARE* The Manager of Pharmacy oversees functions, services, and staff in the Pharmacy Department. Works with the Director of Pharmacy to provide comprehensive pharmaceutical care. Utilizes evidence-based medicine and medication safety standards to ensure positive therapeutic outcomes. Essential Functions of the Role * Drives the development, education, implementation and monitoring of all operational initiatives to give optimal pharmaceutical care. * Ensures that patient care meets standards of safety, effectiveness, patient rights and customer service. * Oversees and sets priorities for the daily operations of the department to assure the provision of quality pharmaceutical care. * Maintains or oversees staff schedule and ensures adequate shift coverage in all areas of the assigned areas of the department. * Oversees staff development and participates in the department's educational activities. Mentors staff in leadership, management, communication, and pharmaceutical care skills. * Aids the Director in developing and executing departmental policies and procedures. Ensures readiness and compliance with all laws and accreditation standards. Works on selection, orientation, training, assignment, staffing, evaluation, performance expectations, discipline, and discharging employees. Complies with applicable employment regulations. * Verify that all required pharmacy, pharmacist, and technician licenses or registrations are current and valid as required by State, Federal, and enterprise guidelines. * Aids the Director with preparing, approving, and monitoring the departmental budget. This budget reflects team, equipment, supplies, and drug expenditures for pharmaceutical care activities. * Participates in committees/task teams as needed. Serves effectively as facilitator when necessary. * May serve as Pharmacist in Charge in agreement with Texas State Board of Pharmacy rules. Key Success Factors * Advanced knowledge of Pharmacy Care modalities, terminology, pharmaceutical calculations, terminology, drug use and aseptic techniques, standards, and equipment. * Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and regulatory requirements. * Knowledge of pharmaceutical operations. * Ability to make operational judgments about work processes, quality, productivity standards, and measurable goals for employees and project teams. * Ability to use broader goals to establish how best to use resources to meet schedules and goals. * Ability to make or approve effective hiring and termination. * Ability to evaluate and recommend changes to policies and establish procedures that affect the managed organization. * Basic business knowledge includes annual planning, goal setting, budget adherence, employee compensation, compliance, and risk management. * General computer skills include Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and email.
