- Oncology Clinical Pharmacy Specialist

University of Iowa Health Care’s Department of Pharmaceutical Care is seeking full-time Oncology Clinical Pharmacy Specialists to provide hematology and oncology pharmaceutical care. Multiple openings are available in various locations, including Des Moines and Iowa City. These pharmacists will provide in-person and telephonic clinical support, patient education, coordination of medication dispensing, and ongoing monitoring for patients receiving oncology and specialty medications. Depending on the position and patient care needs, opportunities may be eligible for recruitment incentives and some routine work from home following successful completion of orientation and applicable eligibility requirements.
Duties include completing comprehensive patient assessments, evaluating medication regimens, providing disease state and medication therapy management, and collaborating with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team. Pharmacy Specialists will educate patients and health care professionals, support medication access and continuity of care, develop clinical protocols and practice guidelines, participate in quality improvement and medication safety initiatives, and document patient care activities in accordance with accreditation standards. Additional responsibilities include serving as a practitioner-educator for pharmacy students and residents, contributing to the development of new clinical services, participating in relevant committees, and supporting research and scholarly activities. Strong clinical judgment, communication, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills are essential for these roles.
